Data In Motion
About DataIM
DataIM (Data In Motion) helps organisations collect, understand and use data. Our work ranges from employee and customer satisfaction surveys to opinion research, organisational vitality assessments and monitoring activities and their impact.
What DataIM does
We combine a research team with software we build ourselves. Every offering below can be used on its own or as part of a full-service project.
Customer and employee experience research
DataIM helps you choose the right research design and collection method, programs the questionnaire, samples the right respondents and runs the fieldwork for customer satisfaction, customer experience and employee experience studies. You receive cleaned data plus analysis and reporting that translate the results into concrete actions for your organisation.
Online survey platform
A survey builder, respondent management and project portal developed in-house by DataIM. The builder handles simple as well as complex, highly customised questionnaires; respondent management covers recruiting, tracking and engaging participants; and the project portal shows the progress of the fieldwork in real time, so you always know where your project stands.
Private research panels
DataIM builds and hosts a dedicated panel of your own customers, members or employees. Panel members get a client panel page with registration, login, online surveys, polls, a forum and news. You get a panel manager to manage members, create surveys and panel selections, send invitations and run polls and forums. Deep profiling and repeated contact make private panels ideal for longitudinal research.
Research dashboards
Our Advanced Research Dashboard lets managers filter results on any variable, split graphs by segment and follow trend charts over time. Results per unit, region or period are available without waiting for a report, which supports fast, data-driven decisions.
Data analysis and text mining
Our data scientists apply statistical analysis, predictive modelling and data visualisation to structured data, and AI-based text mining to open answers, customer feedback and social media. Large volumes of text become themes, patterns and sentiment you can act on.
Vitality monitor
The Vitality monitor is our monitor for municipalities and local sports services in the Netherlands and Belgium. Sports clubs complete an online questionnaire on ten themes, and an online dashboard with scores per theme and a PDF report per club shows where support is needed most.
What makes DataIM different
Full service on our own software
DataIM writes and hosts its own survey platform, panel software and dashboards. A self-service survey tool supplies software only, and many research agencies rent their tooling from a third party. With DataIM you get both the research team and the technology, from one place, and the technology is adapted to your project rather than the other way round.
ISO 27001 and ISO 20252 certified
Our information security management system is certified to ISO 27001:2022 and our research processes to ISO 20252:2019. Both are audited every year by an external auditing party. Read more on our ISO page.
Data stays in the EU, under a processing agreement
DataIM stores its data within the borders of the European Union. When a client shares data with us, a processing agreement is in place, and personal data from research is anonymised 12 months after the study ends. We work under the ICC/ESOMAR code and the Dutch Code of Conduct for Research and Statistics.
Data scientists and developers, not account managers
Our team combines data scientists, software developers and survey programmers. The people who program your survey and analyse your data are the people you talk to.
More than 25 years of research technology
DataIM has been developing and refining research technology for over a quarter of a century: from data collection and processing to platforms, dashboards and, most recently, generative insight tools. Long-running programmes stay on one platform, so results remain comparable over the years.
Who uses DataIM
DataIM works for organisations that want to understand their customers, members or employees and act on what they learn:
- Customer experience and insights teams that measure customer satisfaction and experience, once or continuously.
- HR and employee experience teams that run employee surveys and want results per department in a dashboard.
- Municipalities and local sports services in the Netherlands and Belgium that monitor the vitality of their sports clubs.
- Membership organisations and companies that want a private research panel of their own customers, members or employees.
- Organisations with strict requirements for information security and data location, for which ISO 27001 certification and EU data storage matter.

A multidisciplinary team in Amsterdam: data scientists, software developers, survey programmers, venture design, new business and management work side by side on every project.
How working with DataIM works
-
First contact
Email info@dataim.nl, call 020-5304320 or use the contact form. New business manager Johan picks up new enquiries.
-
Intake and research design
In an intake we map your research question, target group and the decisions you want to support. We then propose a research design and collection method and send a quote per project.
-
Programming and testing
Our survey programmer builds the questionnaire on our own platform and tests it with you before fieldwork starts. If you share respondent data with us, a processing agreement is put in place first.
-
Fieldwork
During fieldwork you follow the response in real time in the project portal. We keep in touch by email and telephone about the status of the project.
-
Analysis and delivery
Our data scientists clean and analyse the data and deliver the results in a dashboard, a report or both, with concrete recommendations. For recurring programmes, follow-up measurements run on the same platform so trends stay comparable.
-
Data handling
Data is stored within the EU and handled according to our ISO 27001 procedures. Personal data from research is anonymised 12 months after the study ends. See the privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions
What is DataIM?
DataIM (Data In Motion) is a research technology agency in Amsterdam. We design, run and analyse customer and employee experience research, and we build and host the software we use for it: an online survey platform, private research panels and research dashboards. We have been doing this for more than 25 years and are certified to ISO 27001 and ISO 20252.
What is the difference between DataIM and Data In Motion?
There is none. Data In Motion is the full company name; DataIM is the short name we use in daily practice, in our email addresses and on this website.
Does DataIM only do surveys, or also analysis and reporting?
We offer the full chain: research design, questionnaire programming, sampling and fieldwork, data processing, statistical analysis, text mining of open answers, and delivery in dashboards or reports. You can also use only the parts you need, for example just the survey platform, or just the analysis of data you already have.
Can DataIM host a private panel of our own customers or employees?
Yes. Our Private Research Panel solution gives your organisation a dedicated, profiled group of your own customers, members or employees. Panel members register, log in, take surveys and polls and use a forum and news page; you or we manage members, selections, invitations and polls in the panel manager. Because the same people can be approached repeatedly, a private panel is well suited to tracking changes over time.
Where is our data stored and who can access it?
DataIM stores its data within the borders of the European Union. When you share data with us, a processing agreement is put in place, and only the people who work on your project have access. Personal data from research is anonymised 12 months after the study ends. All of this is governed by our ISO 27001 information security management system; see our privacy policy for details.
Is DataIM ISO 27001 and ISO 20252 certified?
Yes. DataIM is certified to ISO 27001:2022 for information security and to ISO 20252:2019 for market, opinion and social research. Both certifications are audited annually by an external auditing party.
How much does a customer or employee survey cost?
The cost depends on the research design, the number of respondents, the fieldwork and the depth of the analysis and reporting. We quote per project after a short intake in which we map your research question. For recurring programmes such as the Vitality monitor, a one-off set-up is followed by follow-up measurements at low cost.
How long does a project take from briefing to report?
A typical project runs through five stages: intake, research design and quote, questionnaire programming and testing, fieldwork, and analysis and reporting. During fieldwork you follow the response in real time in the project portal. The total duration depends mostly on the fieldwork period you choose; we agree the planning with you at the start.
How is DataIM different from a self-service survey tool or a large research agency?
A self-service tool gives you software but no research team; a large agency gives you a team but usually rents its tooling from a third party. DataIM gives you both: a small team of data scientists, developers and survey programmers, working on a platform we build and host ourselves under our own ISO 27001 information security management system. You deal directly with the people who program, run and analyse your research.
What is the Vitality monitor?
The Vitality monitor (Vitaliteitsmonitor) is a DataIM product for municipalities and local sports services in the Netherlands and Belgium. Sports clubs complete an online questionnaire on themes such as policy, members, finances, volunteers, facilities and social role; the results appear in an online dashboard with scores per theme and a PDF report per club, so that clubs can be supported in a targeted way.
